Question of the Week

Q: Maybe this has been asked before but what do Kalquorians think of tattoos or piercings? I imagine with Earth being repressed they wouldn't be common so now I'm even more curious what they would think if they ran across an Earther with either, or if possibly there's a Nobek sporting some hidden ink. Is it something that's taboo or seen as not good in their society? If it is seen as a negative what would happen if a clan dated a woman only to discover she had one. I definitely could imagine there's a woman out there like Rachel that defied everything Earther gov.

A:  I'm sure in this universe, tattoos and piercings would be incredibly rare among Earther women, due to Earth's restrictions. Any tattoos would be tiny and hidden and probably homemade. Kalquorians would be fascinated with the story behind the ink, but a woman sporting it would have to be incredibly motivated to dare to have gotten one. Definitely not something that would be done on a whim.

As for Nobeks with tattoos, they'd not want anything like that to get in the way of their 'marks of honor', the scars that they've earned in fighting. Their bodies are canvasses, all right, and they save all that skin for proof they've earned their breed designation. Why have a beautiful design when you can have an ugly mark that shows what a badass warrior you are? LOL. When it comes to piercings, I wonder if Nobeks would see them as an opportunity for more scars (when another Nobek rips them off during a fight) or if it would be regarded as a too-easy way to gain such scars, and thus dishonorable. Hmm.

Thanks for the question!

Please note, I may not answer some questions because they could give away some upcoming plots in future books.
