Question of the Week
Q: I've gathered that when a clan is coming together that its
important to establish a Dramok first, that if a Nobek and an Imdiko wish to be
clanmates they seem to need a Dramok to clan them both. Why can't an Imdiko and Nobek be clanmates out right? Why do they have to wait for the Dramok?
A: You can blame that one on politics, as well as the early drive to establish balanced clans in the first place. Clans of the three male breeds and a female were not always the order of the Empire (you can check 'The Kalquorian Empire' page for the history on that). As with any new social order, there was initially kickback against the clan system. It will come as no surprise that it was the larger number of Nobeks who weren't keen on sharing their rare Imdiko lovers or the even rarer Matara mates. And yes, the warrior majority did have the greatest opportunity to score lovers and mates due to sheer numbers.
To those in power at the time, it seemed far fairer to have the natural leaders, the Dramoks, as the so-called 'heads' of the clans and in charge of establishing the new legally mandated family units. And who were those in power for the most part, those who made that determination? The Dramoks, of course, who always make up the majority, if not the entirety, of the Royal Council. It was a Dramok emperor in power (and his Dramok heir, who headed up the first Imperial Clan) who got the ball rolling.
Yes, they were called out by the Nobeks for shifting terms in their breed's favor. However, the constant warring over the few women had taken a toll on everyone. Even Nobeks can reach a point where they're tired of shedding blood, especially Kalquorian blood. Fear of extinction on the horizon also had a hand in quelling the arguments. The Crown Prince further swayed the popular opinion by agreeing to form a clan, though it meant sharing his betrothed Matara with two other men.
That is how the clan system came to be, with the Dramok in control of creating the clan. Whew. Did you get all that?
Thanks for the question!

WIP Wednesday - Clan Beginnings: Clan and Conscience
Ospar wasn’t as
happy to be home as he usually was. As he stomped to the door of his home, he
ignored Jol on his heels. His door was keyed to automatically recognize him and
it slid open at his approach.
Jol shoved him aside
and entered the house first. “I will go in ahead and make sure nothing dangerous
has been introduced into the home environment.”
“How about
introducing some good breeding into the environment? Shove me again, and I’ll
break all your fingers.” Ospar stormed in after him.
Jol ignored him and
investigated the greeting room, starting with the bar near the entrance. He
snarled at Ospar as the Dramok headed straight for the doorway that would take
him further into the home. “You will wait until I clear each room before you
enter it.”
“Fuck off.” Ospar
kept going.
The next thing he
knew, he was flying through the air. He’d never seen Jol’s approach, but he
sure as hell felt the man grab. Ospar landed safely on the billowy soft lounger
across from the bar, one of many luxurious seating options scattered in the
large room meant for entertaining.
Jol stood over him,
his fierce visage more primal than ever. “I said stay in here!”
Ospar stared up at
him, stunned more at the man’s temerity than his speed and strength. The son of
a bitch just didn’t know when to quit with the whole bodyguard shtick. And it
was going to cost him.
Though furious,
Ospar wasn’t stupid. He knew he couldn’t physically tangle with a Nobek like
Jol and hope to keep his hide intact. Yet the man would pay for putting his
hands on Ospar.
It was a vow the
Dramok had every intention of keeping, or die trying to make happen.

Question of the Week
Q: Will there be stories about the hybrid children becoming
adults and how they change the society?
A: It's a possibility. However, since those would be much different stories from the current series, I would probably make it an entirely different Kalquor-related series. 'Children of Kalquor' or something to that effect. With my current writing schedule, it wouldn't happen for at least a couple of years.
Thanks for the question!

WIP Wednesday - To Protect and Service: Righteous Fury
Kimi left the gym,
exhausted but her head clearer. Maybe she’d have an hour or two where the
endorphins would keep her from wanting to commit mayhem on some poor,
unsuspecting schmuck. Certainly they would last long enough for her to get
home.
She was halfway
across the parking lot to her bike when her cellphone rang. Kimi plucked it out
of the open side pocket of her gym bag. The number came up Unidentified. Her heart slammed into overdrive.
“Hello?”
“Hello, my darling.
How are you?”
Laaruu’s insinuating
purr raised every hair on Kimi’s body and slammed her to a halt. The clarity
she’d gained from pounding the hell out of the punching bag disappeared in a
swirl of chaotic feelings.
Her first instinct
was that she needed a drink. So much for turning over a new leaf in record
time.
She took a deep
breath to calm her pounding heart. “How am I? Do you really give a fuck?”
She heard the
laughter in his voice. “Believe it or not, I do. Are you at least sober?”
“What, you haven’t
been keeping tabs on me?”
“Maybe I have. Maybe
not. It would be nice to establish some trust if you are to come with me.”
Kimi started for her
bike again, scowling in all directions in case he could see her. “Yeah, well,
I’m not so sure that can happen. The trip, I mean. I could give a hot, holy
fuck if you trust me.”
“Are you saying you
don’t wish to join me in my cause against Hanos? The enemy of the women of your
planet who only want to live their lives and not be forced into a brutal
servitude?”
“The same kind of servitude
you offer me?”
“You know it’s not
the same thing. Not by a longshot.” Laaruu’s voice was a seductive purr.
Kimi tried to think
straight, tried to think with her head and not her twat. Unfortunately, her
pussy had begun throbbing with eager want the moment she’d heard his voice on
the phone. Remembering the ways he’d fucked her, the way he’d made her come
over and over—damn it, she’d cut off a tit to feel him inside her again. Even
in her ass.
She had to admit—at
least to herself—that she wanted Laaruu almost as much as she wanted to find
Raven and maybe help those women who had already been abducted.
She reached her
bike. Hung her head. Admitted the unavoidable truth. “I want to go with you.”
Kimi hated how much
she basked in the pleasure of his approval. “Excellent. I’ll come right over
with a contract for you to sign.”
Kimi froze. “A
contract? Seriously?”
“Absolutely. You
must agree to be my slave in a preserved record. It’s the law on Paatuun.”
