The sound of Alek’s footsteps in the hall, heading for the living room, brought a rush of panic. Lillian hurriedly closed the message, then snarled a curse at herself for doing so. What did she have to feel guilty about? Why did she feel she’d done something wrong when Alek…when he…

She stood up. She pointed at his computer, trying to steady her shaking hand. “What is going on between you and Phoebe?”

Alek’s smile froze. Guilt made it vanish. The shame on his face exposed all she needed to know.
