Laaruu moved closer,
close enough to kiss if he bent a few inches. A smile pulled at those kissable
lips. “You are so much more than what I’d hoped you be. To have a chance at
winning you, I’ll make this work or die trying. That includes helping you
discover and freeing other Earthlings Hanos has taken. As for the injuries he
dealt to you, I also am determined to extract payment from him.”
“But?” She heard the
hesitation in his voice.
“For these things to
happen, Saazeer has to sanction it. We need fighters on our side, weapons, money,
ships, everything.”
“I’m with you so
far.”
“In order to win
Saazeer to our side, you have to at least play the role of my slave. Not to fool
Saazeer—my respect for him is too great to do that. However, his backers and
supporters will be required. You must look the part for their benefit.”
Kimi scowled, but
there was no real anger behind it, at least not toward Laaruu. She could tell
he wasn’t bullshitting her.
How he regarded her
couldn’t be discounted either. With hope. Longing shining from his gaze. He hoped
not only to redeem himself for Hanos kidnapping her, but to discover what they
might have together. They’d surprised each other with the upwelling of real
respect and affection. Could it turn into more?
Releasing later in March (date subject to change).
