Fun Friday - Drinks With a Clan

Just for fun, I wondered what it would be like to go out for drinks with Clan Tukui. Part of character development includes how protagonists act in everyday situations, when circumstances aren't fraught with the drama that makes up a novel. So let's have a look at what a night out for Tina and the boys might be like.

Tina's pretty sheltered, so she'd be wide-eyed with curiosity her first time in a bar. Her vibe is slowly sipping a glass of wine to start with as she hangs with her guys. She'll be careful at first, but it won't take much for her to get tipsy. Look for her to start dancing and giggling halfway through her glass. By the end, she'll be shamelessly crawling all over her clanmates. Count on them taking her home early.

Imdiko Yorso loves a night out. He's used to being the belle of the ball, so to speak. He'll be leading sing-a-longs and calling for the next round. It's too bad Kalquorians don't dance, because if they did, he'd be the first on the floor.

Dramok Tukui is another fun-loving fellow ready for a good time and happy to advertise it. If he were an Earther, he'd be the guy taking selfies with his friends, showing off just how awesome he is when out and about.

Nobek Osopa, downing bohut at the bar without feeling any effects, would alternate between trading war stories with other Nobeks and watching his clanmates, ready to fly off his stool and pound any man who'd dare get too friendly with them.

Looks like a fun Friday night out to me!

Aspirant Tina Novak, living on Europa’s convent colony, has no place to call her own. First rejected by her father, now being sent away by Mother Superior, where can a young woman with no prospects go?

The question is delayed by a Kalquorian invasion that takes the aspirants and nuns prisoner. The enemy Kalquorians are teetering on the brink of an extinction disaster, and Earther women are always welcome spoils of war.

Chosen by the young and ambitious clan of Dramok Tukui, Imdiko Yorso, and Nobek Osopa, Tina can’t imagine what her shattered future might bring. When she discovers the gentler side of the fierce Kalquorians, her fear of them becomes fear of losing them.

Can it last? Or will they turn her away in the end, as everyone else has? When the war reaches its unthinkable, violent end, Earther and Kalquorian alike find their lives altered forever. With the lives of Tina’s most vulnerable family members at stake, she and Clan Tukui must set aside what they thought they wanted and embrace what’s possible.
